The regular season for our men’s and women’s soccer teams just finished and they are now gearing up for the playoffs. For graduating players, this will be their final tournament as collegiate athletes.

The Men’s team finished second place in the Canada West Pacific Division, with a record of 8-4-4. A huge contributor for the team this year was their star rookie goalkeeper, Sebastian Colyn. Not only was he able to win the spot on the starting lineup as a freshman, but was also the winner of USports Male Athlete of the Month in September.Against Top 10 ranked teams, the Spartans went 2-1 this season, splitting a pair of games against #6 ranked UBC, and beating #2 ranked Alberta on their home field.

The Women’s team finished first in the Canada West Pacific Division, as well as ranking #5 in the country overall, with a record of 10-3-1. A highlight from the regular season was the nine game winning streak from September 17 – October 14, a dominant group of games where the Spartans outscored their opponents 34-0. And their next game ended in a 0-0 draw, making the streak ten straight shutouts. The women did struggle against the Top 10 ranked teams though, and went 0-2-1, losing a pair of games to #6 ranked UBC, and tying #8 ranked Victoria.

The women’s team opens their quarter-final playoff run on October 28 at 5:00 PM against UFV. Quarter-finals start for the men’s team on the same day, at 7:30 PM following the women’s game against Calgary. Both games are at home for the Spartans.
